INQ28: Dwellers of Septmis.

A 'quick-n-dirty' paintjob to get this Dweller painted up to match something similar to a concept.

Conversion is fairly basic,  but the Dwellers are essentially supposed to be a gross humanoid alien that represent the survivors of a crippled alien race that tried to tangle with the Imperium a few thousand years back,  The Dwellers were created in the FFG Rouge Trader expansion 'Kronus Beastiary' which has a whole series of charts for random generation of alien flora, fauna, and civilizations. We came to the conclusion of semi-slug semi-bird like creature, with this disgusting style of out-of-body digestion being a commonality among the natives of their homeworld.

The tyranid arms are there to represent your basics of an alien crafted bio-weapon, pistol, shotgun and rifle, all of which will likely be fairly apparent given the design of the weapons.

These are the Tau from the last AAR,  their newly added Dweller or My'calo in the language of the Tau.

As for the Rouge Traders from the previous AAR, they can be found here!

INQ28's: Tau on Septmis

The Tau had dispatched their covert operations team many months before, an amalgamation of murderers, aristocrats, scientists, engineers and more, all for the express intent of disabling Imperial watch posts, navy positions and sewing havoc behind the lines. Their official name is Sept Yubusekai, another extrapolation of linguistics to fool human intelligence into thinking their problem is either false or vastly more severe than it truly is...

The team, equipped with a prototype vessel, finds itself on the planet of Septmis, a world which once was the shining capitol of an alien empire, now a blasted grassland taiga inhabited by the feralized remnants of the former xenos empire, split into a variety of clans denoted by the bright colorization of their hair paint.

+++Planet Septmis Data Link+++

The Tau's mission would be to set up a listening post, to encourage the natives,  called 'Spews' in Low Gothic,  My'calo in Tau,  and 'Dwellers' in their own tounge.  and lastly to take a sample of their remaining technology.

-What follows is a mission report from the operations team commander, one Aun'la Zarkith.

Tau Operation Septimus Mission Report

Day 1: uneventful, established post, minimal use of resources

Day 2: one missile fired from crisis suit at unidentified Arvus-Lander with out CO consent, Weapons systems for post set up, Arvus landed near by, estimated at 5 Km near town of Bluepeak.

Two alien vehicles approached of Imperial origin, Words exchanged no fight ensued crew of mixed My'calo and Human origin. Visited My'calo town of Bluepeak discovered rouge traders giving them P7077 marked containers of water.

Day 2 1/2: after talks with the humans and the My'calo, a battle is going to shortly ensue....

Day 3: early morning the humans attack. "raw meat" fires a missile knocking one of two Arvus landers out of the sky, which crashed into the city killing dozens of My'calo and burning several buildings.  The battle escalated and the listening post was assaulted, but defended, the My'calo village of Bluepeak sustained several thousand wounded, and nearly two hundred dead. Both human landers were destroyed, many of their assault team lay dead,  and the remainders were handed to the My'calo as captives.

Team Injuries:

Shas'ui Vaarken has sustained a minor concussion
Kor've Lu-un is undergoing symptoms of PTSD
Shas'vre 'Raw Meat' has sustained major lacerations and a concussion, his battlesuit is very damaged.
Por'ul Kash is also reporting minor mental strain.
I sustained two las wounds in the abdomen,

Overall Status: The My'calo now believe Humans to be enemies. and a Listening post is now established. As a sign of fealty, the Blue elders have given us one of their bravest soldiers,  his name is My'calo Thaspgh.  We recommend the Blue Dwellers of Septmis as candidates for galactic education, and inclusion into the greater good.

Overall mission was a Minor Success

Total War Map Campaign pt.2

Game:  Rome: Total War
Mod:  Warhammer Total War
Map Maker :  Hexagrapher (Free)
Rules for Campaign:  Here
[Click on Photos for a Better Look]

With the Nyssoak Confederation growing in strength and wealth by the hour, the Noblemen and Coastal Kings of the barren Jarra region, with the assistance of the dispossessed shamanic congress of the Lurtuk swear an oath of mutual military assistance, forming the Jarra Tribes as a nation state.

The Winds of the North again grow in Power, icy winds blow across the bleak forests and uncomfortable shadows contort at the horizons edge.

The Khuvtan fortify their borders,  the Nyssoak take cautious positions in their newly captured territory.

In the South, the Saladin march on the Hill Tribes (minor faction), and with their 2nd and 3rd Armies join the tribes in pitched battle.

The Armies of the Saladin arrayed for battle

The missile cavalry of the Saladin armies, skirmish with the onrushing tribesmen. Saladin regiments reveal themselves from ambush and rain arrows onto the enemy

Halberd wielding infantry hit the tribesmen

The Hill Tribe begins to break, Saladin Infantry assault remaining tribal regiments

The Hill Tribe falters and begins to rout, Saladin cavalry chase down the enemy

Saladin Archer view of the battlefield.

In the North, the Jarra Tribes, send their 2nd Army, North to put down another indigenous population, this time a population of brutal volcano worshippers called the Acktrag.

The Jarra, deploy in a fish hook on the top of a ridge to make the best of their ranged weapons

The Acktrag advance,  with flanking ranged cavalry hitting the Jarra on the left. and the main body avoiding the bottom of the ridge as best as possible.

a view from the bottom of the ridge up towards the Jarra

The Acktrag assault on the Jarra left is beaten back, though it is a close run thing

Jarra Spearmen charge down the ridge to catch the regrouping Acktrag before they can reconstitute a threat

The way up to the Jarra left is littered with corpses

Through an unfortunate turn of events for the regrouping Acktrag in the valley below, cavalry and light infantry regiments chasing routing Acktrag missile cav, have surrounded them, The remaining Acktrag would be charged from three sides, only 3 tribesmen would make it from the battlefield alive

More to come!

Video Game Map Campaign. (Rules and Opening)

Myself and JD, both having downloaded and played the Warhammer Total War mod for the venerable Rome Total War (yes the first one) and enjoyed it thoroughly. However recently we were of the mind to utilize a mod to develop our own nations and map using a roleplaying game map maker called "Hexagrapher" which can be downloaded Here.

The Overall Rules for our campaign and the overall pricing of armies and how we go about the moving of NPC factions is facilitated in a .pdf file (living document) that can be downloaded via google drive Here

The Starting Map.

The Khuvtan Templocracy. is a religious oligarchy which lives in the snow bound landscape of the north, just at the border of the weird and twisted lands which harbor a mysterious force called 'the winds of the north', played by myself

The Republic of the Lurtuk Expanse, is a conglomerate of tribal bands living in a coniferous enchanted jungle, they are lead by a Congress of Arch Shaman, they are NPC's

The Nyssoak Confederation is a alliance of Elven Merchant Guilds living in the fertile ground between two mighty seas. they are NPC's

The Saladin are city-state, seeking to expand its influence and status to dizzying heights. Their city has a direct democracy, but the people that live in the outlying spaces under their control are little more than serfs. they are NPC's

The Duhsurg Merchantdom, focuses on economic domination and establishing a stranglehold on foreign trade through use of small private merchanthouse armies to monopolize the fisheries off their coast and in the nearby rivers. Played by JD.

Turn 1, saw some small movements in army positioning and the Nyssoak declare war on the Lurtuk Confederation.

The 3rd Splinter Host of the Nyssoak engage the Barechest Warriors of the Lurtuk Republic. and rout the army in a Heroic Victory.

3rd Splinter Host Spearmen Brace for the Lurtuk charge.

Turn 2, saw the Winds of the North gain a small modicum of power. The Khuvtan marshall their armies in preparation.  The Lurtuk mobilize its Republican Army,  as the Nyssoak Grane Host marches on the fields south of the capitol.   A mighty battle erupts which served to bring down the Republic.
The Nyssoak Grane Host suffers some casualties but many tribesmen and magical creations lie broken upon the field.  The next day the Lurtuk Shaman Congress concedes to the Elves.  The Lurtuk Beastrider's Army scatters into the Expanse to cause trouble for the occupying elves for years to come.

The surviving members of the Elven host mop up tribesmen in the woods.

The tribesmen came in brazen waves to wash upon the Elves, but outflanking Nyssoak missile cavalry and hardworking archers kept the Lurtuk at bay, and inflicted a grim toll on their number

As the glittering Elven warriors marched through the open gates of the Lurtuk Capital triumphant in their step, the question now upon the minds of everyone.  Were the elves destined to be rulers of all, or had their brutal offensive captured to much territory too quickly?

Thanks for reading !

Overview:
The Emperors Scroll Seekers Chapter are a mysterious lot, they are known for their collection of significant human artifacts, which has made them many enemies within the Mechanicus as one might surely expect of such activity. But, they are not lacking in zeal and tenacious fervor for the God Emperor, and so their various quirks have not put them to far at odds with the Munitorum or Inquisition when it comes to persecuting the enemies of mankind. That is, until the events that transpired on the swampy Feral World of Zacadies.

In the waning days of 567.M41 the,  then Imperial World,  of Zacadies was embroiled in a pitched system wide engagement, against the Ork hordes of Warboss Jagsmakk.  While the Warboss's forces were suppressed and contained Zacadies never fully recovered, the western hemisphere went primal, devolving into savage tribesmen,  while the eastern hemisphere belongs to the survivors of Waaagh Jagsmakk.

At the beginning of 890.M41, a reclamation operation was organized with 4 regiments of the Astra Militarium, to scour out the greenskins from the Eastern Hemisphere, and secure sites for recolonization efforts. The Scroll Seekers 4th Company being 'in-sector', expressed a peculiar level of interest in the effort and made it clear they would aide the Guard assault.

The Assault begins well enough with low-moderate casualties, all Guard assets make planet fall and begin moving to secure their objectives.  The Scroll Seekers move and begin obtaining their own goals with little concern with other Imperial forces.

The Kingscrest Brigades' 2nd Company is advancing on a dilapidated water filtration plant, to secure the position and open the way for repair teams.  They are stopped suddenly by a small group of elite Astartes from the Scroll Seekers. Who demand them to turn back and leave the facility and its artifacts to them.  Captain Sallamis, not one to be bullied by anyone, especially when it means not completing an objective, states "This place belongs to the Imperium,  you will allow us to complete our objective or you will be fired upon". The reply is simple,  "We are the sons of the Emperor, we take orders only from his divine will. Turn back in thirty seconds or meet your demise."

Shortly after a hail of bolter rounds would rip apart a forward reconnaissance squad.

"The Relic";  Diagonal Deployment.

The Infantry on both sides make speed for the objective, a few blasts from the sentinels take a Thousand Sons marine, but ultimate little else occurs.

The conscripts take the lead, blasting a few las-rounds into the Thousand Sons who barely take any notice at all. The Chosen opt to weed out the conscripts a bit, and scythe down a handful with long range bolter and heavy bolter fire.

The Conscripts charge past the relic and into the thousand sons, and against all odds hold their own, The Tempestus Scion's team arrive just in time to halt Talis and the Chosen as they advance  on the right. The Hellguns do their job in a flurry of 5's and 6's.  the Chosen are reduced to bloody ribbons and smoking exit wounds. Talis sustains a wound.

The Conscripts are suffering horribly, but don't break, and in fact deal casualties of their own to the Thousand Sons. Talis charges the Scions and uses his force weapon and Bolt of Change to make short work of the Special Forces unit, their screams still echo faintly around the facilities halls. 1st and 2nd Squads form up around the objective to pull the relic out. The sentinels try to move into the alley, but the lead sentinel gets immobilized on some sludge barrels and the leg workings seize up.  The Terminators appear just in time to box my infantry in (it wasn't planned, but it definitely had that feeling!)

A view from Alpha Platoon's command dugout at the giant melee. Just before the command teams charge out to try and stop the marine heavy hitters from assaulting the squad with the relic.

1st squad, the platoon command, and the company command assault the terminators where Captain Sallamis fells two terminators (three cheers for snake eyes),  the commissar and two surviving conscripts keep fighting the thousand sons, bravely holding the line to try and let 2nd squad escape and win the game.  But the last Scion collapses in a pool of blood soaked mud, and Talis sprints forward into 2nd Squad, forcing them to drop the relic and defend themselves.

Talis doing awful things to second squad...

A sight less guardsmen left at turn 6.

Final Results:

Astra Militarium: 1 [First Blood]
Scroll Seekers:

Honifrica Opima:

Librarian Talis- without the sorcerer, its likely that the marines would have been unable to firmly punch through to the relic,  he also accounted for the marine kill point and just general excelled at being a 'hero' character,  he was awarded with a dump trucks worth of experience,  and a stylish new paint job (picture in the next battle.)

The Conscripts of Alpha Platoon.- The militia of this squad, personify the reason I love the Imperial Guard. despite being normal humans, even more so than their guardsmen counterparts. They fought against expensive heavy infantry, the entire game, not breaking through their determination and obscenely lucky amount of wounds.  Despite locking down the Thousand Sons for four whole turns, and nearly securing victory as a result. the experience chart (were I awarding this list exp) would have been a -20. These guys exemplify the grim futility of life in the Guard!

This was JD's (Scroll Seekers) first 40k game, and it was definitely entertaining. I mentioned above that we are using the exp/ battle honors section from the 4th edition rule book. Since this is the first battle in the 'campaign' no battle honors were awarded.  I will also, be playing Orks which i'm currently working on building up, so that i'm not at quite so much of a materials/familiarity advantage over JD in future games, therefore I didn't award the Kingscrest any exp.

If you've got any questions about this weird hodge-podge of books I call 'house rules' now.  or random commentary feel free!
