Jornath: The Decent of Corporis

The sleek black and gray armatures of the Sons of Medusa Strike Cruiser "Concise Absolution" slid by the decimated Suetonius Station. Its pulsing proximity lights, and the twinkling glow from the interior viewing portals matching the fires raging across the stations' breadth. The display of both placed into dramatic relief as the planet of Jornath slid once more into view. The fires and even large explosions ripping across the war zone could be seen now raging across the majority of the western hemispheres' largest continent.  There, their brother Astartes were earning glory, and favor in the service of the God-Emperor and of the Omnissiah.

Aboard this mighty vessel was a full company from the War Clan Mageara, now with many of its members enhanced with Belsarius Cawl's Primaris Gene Manipulations. The Sons of Medusa are known for their linkage with the Omnissiah's followers, and indeed it is this pact which has drawn the emerald-clad marines to the planet. With Chaos threats highly active in the Eastern Fringe, and amongst the southern sectors in the Segmentum Tempestus it has become vital that those worlds capable of being secured and used as bases for resupplying the defense of the Emperor's domain are brought into favorable conditions to support industry.

The company was expected to join the vicious fighting around Fort Behras or perhaps reinforce Skitarii and militia units at Usamiljen Heights.  It surprised everyone within the Admiralty and Tactica Command Jornath, when Brother-Captain Calces Corporis announced a deployment of his Marines into the Rok landing sites outside of Kula Hive. These sites had seen diminished xenos activity since the launching of the Ork's summer offensive last year.  Captain Corporis' reasoning was carefully calculated as is typical for a son of Ferrus Manus, the Orks had largely been concentrated into a handful of major conflict zones, but were still being supplied in their efforts from Mek factories in the captured city of Bolasku, and from inside the Rok landing area. The Mek's were a particularly favored target for the Sons of Medusa, any alien that pollutes the Imperium with blasphemous technologies should be purged first, thereby denying its ilk use of the equipment and sparing the spirits of untold thousands of machines from torment at the hands of the Ork techno-torturers.

So it was that battle was joined with the Ork warleader known as Kill-Mek Oilymaw and his Kult of Speed, several kilometers behind the xenos' frontlines. The mission was simple...

"Purge the Weak!" snarled Captain Corporis, as he leaped from the low flying Thunderhawk. The sound of xenos heavy weapons fire shrieking through the air.

The thunder of roaring engines and stomping walkers echoed around the slum city.  "Squad Pugno, regroup with the strike force after you've finished preparing the containers for demolition, Squad Rubro and Aerea prepare for motorized contacts from six-zero." A chime of silent affirmations quickly came from the Strike Force Vox-Net

"Charges Set Brother Sergeant" spoke Auternus. "Good, prepare to detonate the charges on my signal! Squad bounding cover back to the main landing zone. Move!" shouted Sergeant Pugno, as the hydraulic hiss-slap of a Killa-Kan's legs grew louder.

"Brothers, adjust ranging to within 75 meters, remember to aim for the axle and engine block." said Sergeant Aerea calmly to his squad. A gretchin wearing a plastic bag and wielding some type of slug throwing rifle appeared from behind the Mek Workshops' perimeter wall. A stalker bolter round from his squad turned the runt into a cloud of black mist. "Round telemetry reports exact distance at 68 meters brother Sergeant" spoke Brother Neglev.  "Adjust" stated Aerea

Pugno sprinted across the marshy ground to the hilltop where the strike force, stood awaiting the arrival of his Marines. Heavy slugs from an Ork Buggy further in the compound chewed up the ground around them as they ran. Just as he was about to order the squad to return fire, a bulky ramshackle Ork Trukk smashed through the scrap metal perimeter walls blocking the vehicles' fire.

"Engage!" Yelled Captain Corporis, as the Trukk barrelled straight at their lines. The hail of Hellblaster plasma and bolter fire sending all manner of metal shards flying off the machine in an incandescent flare of white-hot explosions. The resultant husk grinding into the soft ground, a steaming pile of liquidated scrap, the occupants still attempting to disentangle themselves from the wreckage, as the rest of the greenskin force reached the wall.

"Squad, turn and engage the enemy!" Pugno screamed into his vox-link, as the trukk was torn asunder by the rest of the strike force. Heavy weapons fire from the main ork body answered the Astartes, and the battle was joined in earnest.  Turning back to inspect the container storage and main gate, he saw the shape of the killa kan already firing away with a hull mounted stubber.

Looking past the haze of smoke from the wreckage through the optic on his Bolt Rifle, Sergeant Aerea eyed a massive shape amidst the throng of other Orks. "Priority Target located Brother-Captain".     "Affirmative neutralize the Warriors first and then we shall slay the warboss"

"The weak approach! Prepare for close contact" snarled Sergeant Rubro, venting heat build up in his hellblaster, as the Orks pulled themselves from the wrecked vehicle and began charging their position.

"Task force! Prepare to receive a charge. DENY THE ALIEN" said Captain Corporis, striding forward and thumbing the activation rune on his power sword. The bulk of the greenskin infantry had arrived now dozens of alien warriors scurried around the wall and began their advance at the Astartes lines.

"Fire at the Kan!" ordered Pugno, triggering the detonation charges. The massive explosion stumbling the walker, shrapnel sheering off the massive hydraulic claw from the machine. Bolter fire laced across the gap, blowing great steaming holes into the body. Fire quickly licked up out of the crew cab, a handful of snotlings scrambling out from a side hatch. Such diminutive creatures were hardly worth the ammo spent, but Pugno was in no mood and the greenskin runts were soon turned to a pile of black gore from the squads bolter fire.

Aerea parried the thick cleaver with a flick of his wrist, sending the Ork wide to his left. The impulsivity of the greenskins made their attacks predictable and easy to counter but their weight of numbers and the raw power of the beasts made them deadly. Aerea knew to respect the foe, to understand its capabilites, and then to kill it. He smiled as the hilt of his blade slammed into the ribcage of the now exposed Ork boy, a fountain of black ichor spraying out.

The majority of the lesser aliens dead or dying on the field Captain Corporis leveled his sword at the Ork Warboss, and turned on his external vox hailer "Time to die beast!".    Big Mek Oilymaw, only bellowed a thunderous warcry and ran headlong at the Captain.  The mighty axe of the alien, smashing against the broad edge of Corporis' blade with such force that a shower of blazing sparks rained down. "Youz gunna pay fer what u done to me Boyz!" screamed Oilymaw, pushing back and preparing for another blow. Corporis charged forward, hoping to get inside the Ork's guard and was met with a heavy green fist to the breastplate for his troubles.

"Die you filth!" shouted Rubro, stamping onto the Nob's broken face, until the skull finally gave way. Barely taking a moment to breathe, he looked up at the encroaching Ork machinery.  "Keep those abominations away from the Captain at any cost!"  flipping the venting valve closed on his Hellblaster, he fired a superheated charge of plasma towards the perimeter wall.

Pugno looked to the location of the Ork buggy that had engaged them earlier, as he and his squad moved forward to survey the damage to the Kan and shipping containers. Squad Aes was already ontop of the warmachine, the greenskin on the mounted gun frantically firing at the Interceptors as their used their jump packs to find an advantage on the foe.

leaping to his feet Captain Corporis barely parried Oilymaw's axe blow. The impact sending him scrabbling to the side. As he caught himself he dove forward, his blade just missing the ork's gut, and leaving a fuming cut on the Mek's left flank. It screamed in pain but did not recoil, instead throwing his axe the side and using both hands to lift Corporis into the air. Oilymaw slammed his head into the Captains face visor and threw him to the ground.  Corporis' vision swam, he could barely see through the broken vision lenses.  The hulking shape of the warboss approaching him, having just recovered its axe was broken and distorted.  Hatred filled Corporis, he gripped a frag grenade and rolled it at the space between them.

"Recover the Captain!" shouted Aerea over the strike force vox frequency.  As a frag grenade detonated in front of the warboss.  It let out a furious bellow of anger and pain, just as Aerea and Rubro moved to block its path from the wounded Corporis.

"Dat was a propah good fight dat wuz" breathed Oilymaw heavily.
"Next time iz gunna ave loadz more gubbinz and boyz fer you lot tah tangle wiv"

"There won't be a next time alien" spoke Aerea, leveling his bolt pistol at the beast.

"Dats where yah wrong youz beakie git. Iz an ork. an Orksies can always come back fer annuver go!!"

A cataclysmic explosion ripped through the Mek workshop behind them. The concussive shockwave was almost enough to knock the Astartes to the ground with its raw power. Aerea shielded his visor on instinct from the furious onslaught of grit, razor sharp bits of metal and falling debris. He lowered his hand, and Oilmaw had gone, disappeared into the fog of smoke and ash...

Jornath: The Raid on Valeri Pesh.

Col. Reynolds 2nd Jornathi Advisory Battalion. Report of Actions.
Operation Remits Maw, is a total failure, many units are now under strength, totally wiped out, or still stranded and cut off in the Ctre Valley. While in many locations the Blood Axes have withdrawn into the mountain caves, and mine shafts, leaving bloody ragged columns to withdraw back to Fort Bheras [Munitorum Designation H-906]. The various Deffskullz that were drawn into the fighting from the Valeri Pesch Refinery Complex, have had no such convictions about ambushing and feints, In order to allow the some 5,000 Imperial Guardsmen still locked in fighting on the right flank of Remits Maw's advance column, to withdraw south, A tactical squad and two terminators of the Dreadmare Companions Chapter were deployed into the heart of the Ork held Refinery to obliterate the Deffskullz command structure.
They were very successful, suffering only 2 casualties, both of whom are now stable, while the Ork dead are in their hundreds.
*MISSION: Special Forces Raid #1 Assassination- Operation Remits Maw Missions.
*Outcome: Significant Imperial Victory, Ork Command Structure damaged. No ground taken. Team extracted via Storm Raven after HVT elimination, due to swarming Xenos activity at Operations site.

Overview:
The Emperors Scroll Seekers Chapter are a mysterious lot, they are known for their collection of significant human artifacts, which has made them many enemies within the Mechanicus as one might surely expect of such activity. But, they are not lacking in zeal and tenacious fervor for the God Emperor, and so their various quirks have not put them to far at odds with the Munitorum or Inquisition when it comes to persecuting the enemies of mankind. That is, until the events that transpired on the swampy Feral World of Zacadies.

In the waning days of 567.M41 the,  then Imperial World,  of Zacadies was embroiled in a pitched system wide engagement, against the Ork hordes of Warboss Jagsmakk.  While the Warboss's forces were suppressed and contained Zacadies never fully recovered, the western hemisphere went primal, devolving into savage tribesmen,  while the eastern hemisphere belongs to the survivors of Waaagh Jagsmakk.

At the beginning of 890.M41, a reclamation operation was organized with 4 regiments of the Astra Militarium, to scour out the greenskins from the Eastern Hemisphere, and secure sites for recolonization efforts. The Scroll Seekers 4th Company being 'in-sector', expressed a peculiar level of interest in the effort and made it clear they would aide the Guard assault.

The Assault begins well enough with low-moderate casualties, all Guard assets make planet fall and begin moving to secure their objectives.  The Scroll Seekers move and begin obtaining their own goals with little concern with other Imperial forces.

The Kingscrest Brigades' 2nd Company is advancing on a dilapidated water filtration plant, to secure the position and open the way for repair teams.  They are stopped suddenly by a small group of elite Astartes from the Scroll Seekers. Who demand them to turn back and leave the facility and its artifacts to them.  Captain Sallamis, not one to be bullied by anyone, especially when it means not completing an objective, states "This place belongs to the Imperium,  you will allow us to complete our objective or you will be fired upon". The reply is simple,  "We are the sons of the Emperor, we take orders only from his divine will. Turn back in thirty seconds or meet your demise."

Shortly after a hail of bolter rounds would rip apart a forward reconnaissance squad.

"The Relic";  Diagonal Deployment.

The Infantry on both sides make speed for the objective, a few blasts from the sentinels take a Thousand Sons marine, but ultimate little else occurs.

The conscripts take the lead, blasting a few las-rounds into the Thousand Sons who barely take any notice at all. The Chosen opt to weed out the conscripts a bit, and scythe down a handful with long range bolter and heavy bolter fire.

The Conscripts charge past the relic and into the thousand sons, and against all odds hold their own, The Tempestus Scion's team arrive just in time to halt Talis and the Chosen as they advance  on the right. The Hellguns do their job in a flurry of 5's and 6's.  the Chosen are reduced to bloody ribbons and smoking exit wounds. Talis sustains a wound.

The Conscripts are suffering horribly, but don't break, and in fact deal casualties of their own to the Thousand Sons. Talis charges the Scions and uses his force weapon and Bolt of Change to make short work of the Special Forces unit, their screams still echo faintly around the facilities halls. 1st and 2nd Squads form up around the objective to pull the relic out. The sentinels try to move into the alley, but the lead sentinel gets immobilized on some sludge barrels and the leg workings seize up.  The Terminators appear just in time to box my infantry in (it wasn't planned, but it definitely had that feeling!)

A view from Alpha Platoon's command dugout at the giant melee. Just before the command teams charge out to try and stop the marine heavy hitters from assaulting the squad with the relic.

1st squad, the platoon command, and the company command assault the terminators where Captain Sallamis fells two terminators (three cheers for snake eyes),  the commissar and two surviving conscripts keep fighting the thousand sons, bravely holding the line to try and let 2nd squad escape and win the game.  But the last Scion collapses in a pool of blood soaked mud, and Talis sprints forward into 2nd Squad, forcing them to drop the relic and defend themselves.

Talis doing awful things to second squad...

A sight less guardsmen left at turn 6.

Final Results:

Astra Militarium: 1 [First Blood]
Scroll Seekers:

Honifrica Opima:

Librarian Talis- without the sorcerer, its likely that the marines would have been unable to firmly punch through to the relic,  he also accounted for the marine kill point and just general excelled at being a 'hero' character,  he was awarded with a dump trucks worth of experience,  and a stylish new paint job (picture in the next battle.)

The Conscripts of Alpha Platoon.- The militia of this squad, personify the reason I love the Imperial Guard. despite being normal humans, even more so than their guardsmen counterparts. They fought against expensive heavy infantry, the entire game, not breaking through their determination and obscenely lucky amount of wounds.  Despite locking down the Thousand Sons for four whole turns, and nearly securing victory as a result. the experience chart (were I awarding this list exp) would have been a -20. These guys exemplify the grim futility of life in the Guard!

This was JD's (Scroll Seekers) first 40k game, and it was definitely entertaining. I mentioned above that we are using the exp/ battle honors section from the 4th edition rule book. Since this is the first battle in the 'campaign' no battle honors were awarded.  I will also, be playing Orks which i'm currently working on building up, so that i'm not at quite so much of a materials/familiarity advantage over JD in future games, therefore I didn't award the Kingscrest any exp.

If you've got any questions about this weird hodge-podge of books I call 'house rules' now.  or random commentary feel free!

15mm Imperial Fist Tac. Marine

Hey all, the Orion Heavy Infantry from Blue Moon arrived the other week, along with some necessary Westarc minis.   I've tried my hardest to replicate a space marine in this scale, let me know your thoughts,  i plan on bulking up his legs.  I also have a platoon of British FV432's that will serve as Razorbacks.

yesterday, i had a whole gang of guys over for a minis' day.  Owen, JD, and newcomer Kaleb,   we worked on 15mm Sci-fi,  played a small skirmish with those,  myself and JD played a 1500 point Orc v WoC battle in WFB,  and there was a lot of talking about possible manufacturers for Orks, Dark Eldar, and Tau for 15mm 40k.  Hopefully we may soon see several Ork Units WAAAAGHING across the games table.

The one on the far right was done by Chris.

The War for Megnara (15mm 40k)

Segmentum Tempestus
Sub Sector Novara
Imperial World.

Synopsis: Megnara is of a mixed temperate, and is covered predominantly in forests and high rocky mountain areas.  Tracts of the south western hemisphere are given over to rich agricultural facilities,  and in the entirety of the north breaks into vast tundra and immensely deep ravines (some nearly a kilometer deep) that present rich mineral veins, and hot springs.   The planetary capital , and the only hive city, is  The Glisterbrug  {ja-glis-tur-barg} which rests in the idyllic “valley of pastels”.  The Planet is governed by Primadon, Quinn Vanders,  and sustains a local PDF garrison of  15 Regiments, positioned evenly across the planet.   Its primary exports are lumber, and mineral ore,  it has a relatively low tithe rate for the Adeptus Munitorum, as the Sub-Sector has been spared much conflict.

Situation: An unidentified force of Chaos Renegades, has landed in the planets Southeastern Hemisphere, and spread heretical teachings amid the populace.   The Megnarian PDF 8th and 11th Regiments are holding the Cultists and Renegade Militia at bay at several key cities and industrial complexes.  Estimated casualties are 250,000 and are primarily civilians.   The remaining Megnarian PDF regiments are marching to the hot zone but are several weeks out, as they lack sufficient vehicle transports.  A Flotilla of Chaos vessels hangs in orbit, above the hot zone, but is under sustained pressure of the local Naval command.

Order of Battle:

Imperial Fists 5th Company.

Cadian 157th
Cadian 109th
Mordian 116th
Elter’s World 90th
Elter’s World 91st

Plan of Assault:  The Imperial Fists will deploy among the Regiments of the Imperial Guard, to supplement their forces during stage 1 of the ground operations.  Upon arriving planetside, Imperial troops will assist the 8th and 11th Megnarian in holding the line, until the rest of the PDF arrive.  Once this occurs, the fresh PDF will be subsumed into Imperial Ground Command and all forces, save for the 8th, 11th, and 1st Megnarian,  and the Elter’s World 90th, will push the frontline forward 10km to “Phaseline Alpha”.

Once the push has properly tested the Chaos forces capabilities and located positions of Strength, the Imperial Fists will rejoin and attack en mass at these traitor fortifications.  This method of pushing, and surgical strikes will repeat until Chaos forces have been obliterated, somewhere around  Vurde {Ver-du}.

Rules of Engagement:
Civilians within the Hot Zone are to be considered tainted,  and eliminated where discovered.

The taking of captives will be acceptable only during the stage 1 push, to analyze enemy force composition and gather Intelligence.

I'm still thinking about what Chaos force i want to use, i think i will have it bolstered by a small contingent of Chaos Space Marines. I also don't think i want to use the Pilgrims of Rust, just to shake things up a little.

Imperial Fists Scout in 15mm

Being the negative influence that I am, i was able to talk my buddy Chris into building and painting 40k stuff in 15mm.   The intention of this will be to represent what we consider "realistic" engagements in the setting.  So long range tank fights and a variety of more true to form operations.   I've got an idea for a battlefield that I think might be enjoyable in the Segmentum Tempestus.

I've taken the bull by the horns this go around, in that i've taken up the challenge of making space marines.  While the mini's i plan on using for the Full-Brothers and Heros are in the mail. I've made a few scouts and a few chaos elements.  But for right now the only guy i've got painted his this one scout.

If you'd like to see Chris' ventures in this check them out ...   Here

If you want to see some truly inspiring 15mm 40k work you need to see Gunners Wargaming Blog

and also check out Pawn Cocktail for some neat Astra Tempestus Scions.

Thats all for right now.

Assemblage of The Pilgrims of Rust

I recently purchased the IG of a friend of mine,  and added them to my pre existing Pilgrim forces. Which as you can probably imagine prompted me into a fit of naming everyone and assigning combat groupings.  But more importantly. It prompted me to do this...

Here we have A "Alpharis" Company of the Yurien 3rd Armored. With Lt.Col. Laccarde in the Executioner at the Top Right commanding.   The Chimera serves as Company support for both squadrons, and shuttles repair teams, and ammunition to vehicles in the field.  The Basilisk's are part of the integrated structure of the company and are permanently assigned to Alpharis unlike Imperial Guard fighting formations.

Here is Valkyrie "Goliath 1" which is assigned to the Rallen 14th.  and The Baneblade "Causeway of Brass" which is Col. Merda's (CO of the Yurien 3rd Armored) command tank
